The liturgy for the dead is an Easter liturgy. It finds all its meaning in the resurrection. Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we, too, shall be raised.

The liturgy, therefore, is characterized by joy, in the certainty that “neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Book of Common Prayer, 507

To plan a funeral please contact the church office at 828-884-3666 or getintouch@stphilipsbrevardnc.org to make an appointment with our Rector.

The first recorded Episcopal Service in what is now Transylvania County was June 5, 1856 at St. Paul’s in the Valley (2.5 miles south of Brevard). Although the church is no longer standing, St. Philip's is the steward of the cemetery.  Members may still acquire burial sites. The Cemetery Guidelines are found here and the Burial Form here.
